On this page, you can learn more about our guided canoe
and kayak float trips. We have also
answered some frequently asked questions below.
This page will outline our schedule, our rates, our safety policies and more.
If you don't find the answer to your question on
the website, please email us at pebblepublishing@gmail.com. We answer emails
much faster than phone calls since our office is not staffed full-time due to
the recession.
When do you lead your trips?
Mighty Mo Canoe Rentals offers guided canoe & kayak excursions starting at 1
p.m. on Saturdays from May through the end of October.
Is this trip appropriate for me?
Our guided canoe floats are offered to every age. We have had ages 7 through
70 on our trips. We require that children paddle in a boat with a legal
guardian. We also require that everyone wear a life jacket during the entire
float.
Can we schedule our float for a weekday?
We also offer custom trips to fit in with your vacation plans. Please call or
email to arrange your trip on a weekday or Sunday if that better suits your
schedule. We offer this service with a 4-boat minimum ($280. 8 people x $35). If you have fewer
people, but are willing to pay the 5-boat minimum rate, we are happy to
accommodate your needs.
Where do we meet up?
These guided trips will depart from the
Katy Trail Bed & Bikefest, located
on the Katy Trail, between Lewis & Clark Streets, in Rocheport, Missouri.
How long does the trip last?
The 6.6 mile downriver float lasts approximately
four hours. Trips
can last as much as four hours depending on river conditions, how
inquisitive the paddlers are, etc.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. The Missouri River is too large for swimming, so any
summer clothes would do. Swimsuits are not necessary. I would recommend wearing
some old tennis shoes that can get wet or possibly muddy when entering and
exiting the canoes/kayaks. We may get out and explore a sandbar or two -- so
wear comfortable shoes. A sun hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket or sweatshirt
may come in handy, since there is usually more of a breeze on the river than on
the shore. It's recommended to have a dry change of clothes in the car for the
drive home, since kids like to get muddy, and getting wet can be part of the
fun.
Is canoeing on the Missouri River dangerous?
The Missouri River demands respect. It is a big river.
However, with the proper safety precautions, it offers a
front row seat to the Lewis & Clark Trail that cannot be found anywhere else.
First-time paddlers on the Missouri River are often surprised that it feels like
a slow-moving lake rather than a fast-moving river.
Should I bring a snack or something to drink?
Sure! Bring a snack and something to drink. There is also a small convenience
store located at the "pull out," where you can purchase a snack after we load up
the boats and start the 15 minute drive back to Rocheport. Please be advised,
alcoholic beverages are not permitted on our trips.
Where can I eat lunch in Rocheport?
We depart at 1 p.m. so that you have time to eat picnic or eat lunch at one
of Rocheport's area restaurants. Visit
www.rocheport.com for a complete listing. Currently, the restaurants in town
include the Trailside Cafe, the Rocheport General Store, Abigail's and Les Bourgeois
Bistro.
What kind of boats do you rent?
We rent a variety of canoes & kayaks. We have Old Town canoes, Mad River
canoes, Perception touring kayaks that seat two, and a touring kayak that seats
one, to accommodate every paddler's preference.
There's three of us. Can we have a passenger in the middle of our
canoe?
Yes. See our rates page for more information.
How do we sign up?
Visit our
reservations page or click here.
Please read the text below - it will probably
answer your questions before you call.
Below is the text from
our confirmation email that will be sent to you. It includes directions,
what to wear, what to bring (and what NOT to bring), etc. Please print this
out and bring it with you.
Greetings from Mighty Mo Canoe Rental!
We are pleased to accept
your reservation. We will depart at 1 p.m. sharp from the
Katy Trail Bed &
Bikefest, located at 101 Lewis Street in Rocheport, Missouri 65279 (see
directions here). You may park in our parking area, or on the shoulder
of the road.
Please arrive no later
than 12:45 a.m.
Plan to bring sunscreen,
sunhat, sunglasses, and something to drink (like water or Gatorade) and
snacks. Conditions at times can be very hot.
Please be sure to wear
shoes that can get a little muddy or wet. River sandals and old tennis shoes
work well. Crocks, flip-flops, and backless sandals are not appropriate.
We may be stopping to
splash around a bit at one of the sandbars so it would be a good idea to
wear your swim suit or shorts that can get wet.
The float can be
rigorous (if there's a headwind) and somewhat removed from immediate medical
assistance, please advise us and plan accordingly.
Participants should be
in fairly good physical condition, and should be able to support their own
body weight when getting in and out of canoes. Participants should also be
able to walk up steep, rocky embankments getting to and from the river.
If participants are over
250 pounds, please let us know in advance.
If you are a diabetic or
have any medical conditions that may need to be addressed in the course of
this 4-5 hour float trip please bring medications or snacks as needed.
Please plan to leave all
cell phones, watches, jewelry, electronic gear and valuables at home or in
your car. If you bring a camera, consider bringing a disposable waterproof
camera. We recommend you bring a dry bag or sealed waterproof container to
keep items dry.
We depart at 1 p.m. to
allow you time to eat lunch in Rocheport at one of the various restaurants
that offer everything from hamburgers & fries (Trailside Cafe located at the
Katy Trail Trailhead), or more upscale items at Abigail's Restaurant. Please
see www.rocheport.com
for a complete listing.
We generally shuttle
people back to Rocheport after our float. However, you can also choose to
bike back to Rocheport (45 minute easy flat ride) on the Katy Trail. It is a
real pretty stretch of trail. If you would like for us to shuttle your bikes
down to the end of the float, please drop your bikes off at the Katy Trail
Bed & Bikefest at 101 Lewis Street, Rocheport, MO 65279, no later than 10
a.m. Also, if you would be kind enough to reply to this email that you're
biking back that would streamline our planning. (If you want to bike back
but can't be here by 10 a.m. please email us so that we can work something
out...)
If you need to rent a
bike, please call Trailside Cafe & Bike Rental at (573) 698-2702.
Some general rules of
thumb regarding weather cancellations: if there is a 50% or greater chance
of thunderstorms IN ROCHEPORT (ZIP 65279), after 1 p.m., we will cancel our
float. Don't check KC or St. Louis weather - CHECK Rocheport's weather -
since it will be different.
CLICK HERE TO CHECK ROCHEPORT WEATHER
Also - if the river is
above 18 feet on the local Boonville gauge, we may cancel the float.
You can watch the river level fluctuate in real-time at http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=eax&gage=bozm7.
Please note that the river level updates throughout the week - and I
typically don't cancel a float until about 2 days before the float, since
the forecasts here fluctuate wildly daily.

overnight stay in Rocheport, please visit

The Katy Trail Bed &
Bikefest is a cozy 1880s historic house located right on the Katy Trail!
