On this page, you can learn more about our guided canoe
and kayak float trips. We have also
answered some frequently asked questions below.
This page will outline our schedule, our rates, our safety policies and more.
When do you lead your trips?
Mighty Mo Canoe Rentals offers guided canoe & kayak excursions starting at 1
p.m. on Saturdays from May through the end of October.
Is this trip appropriate for me?
Our guided canoe floats are offered to every age. We have had ages 7 through
70 on our trips. We require that children paddle in a boat with a legal
guardian. We also require that everyone wear a life jacket during the entire
float.
Can we schedule our float for a weekday?
We also offer custom trips to fit in with your vacation plans. Please call or
email to arrange your trip on a weekday or Sunday if that better suits your
schedule. We offer this service with a 5-boat minimum ($350. 10 people x $35). If you have fewer
people, but are willing to pay the 5-boat minimum rate, we are happy to
accommodate your needs.
Where do we meet up?
These guided trips will depart from the
Katy Trail Bed & Bikefest, located
on the Katy Trail, between Lewis & Clark Streets, in Rocheport, Missouri.
How long does the trip last?
The 6.6 mile downriver float lasts approximately
four hours. Trips
can last as much as four hours depending on river conditions, how
inquisitive the paddlers are, etc.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. The Missouri River is too large for swimming, so any
summer clothes would do. Swimsuits are not necessary. I would recommend wearing
some old tennis shoes that can get wet or possibly muddy when entering and
exiting the canoes/kayaks. We may get out and explore a sandbar or two -- so
wear comfortable shoes. A sun hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket or sweatshirt
may come in handy, since there is usually more of a breeze on the river than on
the shore. It's recommended to have a dry change of clothes in the car for the
drive home, since kids like to get muddy, and getting wet can be part of the
fun.
Is canoeing on the Missouri River dangerous?
The Missouri River demands respect. It is a big river.
However, with the proper safety precautions, it offers a
front row seat to the Lewis & Clark Trail that cannot be found anywhere else.
First-time paddlers on the Missouri River are often surprised that it feels like
a slow-moving lake rather than a fast-moving river.
Should I bring a snack or something to drink?
Sure! Bring a snack and something to drink. There is also a small convenience
store located at the "pull out," where you can purchase a snack after we load up
the boats and start the 15 minute drive back to Rocheport. Please be advised,
alcoholic beverages are not permitted on our trips.
Where can I eat lunch in Rocheport?
We depart at 1 p.m. so that you have time to eat picnic or eat lunch at one
of Rocheport's area restaurants. Visit
www.rocheport.com for a complete listing. Currently, the restaurants in town
include the Trailside Cafe, The Cracked Crab, Abigail's and Les Bourgeois
Bistro.
What kind of boats do you rent?
We rent a variety of canoes & kayaks. We have Old Town canoes, Mad River
canoes, Perception touring kayaks that seat two, and a touring kayak that seats
one, to accommodate every paddler's preference.
There's three of us. Can we have a passenger in the middle of our
canoe?
Yes. See our rates page for more information.
